Russell Wilson has opened up about raising wife Ciara‘s son Future Jr., whom she shares with rapper Future.
The 35-year-old NFL star sat down for a chat on the television program I Am Athlete, where he got candid about fatherhood and marriage.
Speaking to host and fellow pro athlete Brandon Marshall, Wilson said he believes God gave him the responsibility of raising the nine-year-old boy.
‘You got to love every single child as if they’re yours. That’s been the greatest gift of raising Future, and Sienna, and Win, and now Amora,’ he said.
The football star continued: ‘God gave me that opportunity to raise them and to love them and to care for them and teach them every day. There’s no difference.
‘To me, it’s the greatest gift — knowing that’s the responsibility to raise these four beautiful children all together.’
‘Seeing Future smile and shooting hoops with Steph Curry, seeing Sienna do her gymnastics and how much she’s dedicated — I swear, I think she’s going to win a gold medal doing that,’ the proud dad gushed.
Russell elaborated, ‘Fatherhood is a direct reflection of what God has done for us.’
‘My dad always spoke life into me. He always encouraged me, he always lifted me up,’ the athlete reflected about his childhood.
‘I have this amazing responsibility every day with Future, with Sienna, with Win, now Amora. It’s a gift and responsibility to love them the way that God wants me to love them,’ Wilson shared.
Last fall Ciara, 37, opened up about how she realized that her romantic relationship with the Atlanta-bred rap artist, 40, wasn’t going to work out long-term.
While chatting on the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper, the songstress said it was after she and Future welcomed their child that it dawned on her that they weren’t meant to be together long term.
‘It’s almost like your taste buds change,’ she said.
‘You gotta also sometimes look in the mirror and reflect on yourself. Like, what are things that I could be doing differently in my life?’ she continued. ‘I’m looking for a change but what does that mean?’
She and Future (real name: Nayvadius DeMun Cash) began their relationship in 2012, and in May of 2014 they welcomed son Future Zahir.
They split by August of that year, allegedly due to the music artist’s infidelity.
The Goodies hitmaker added that she got more serious after becoming a mother, with the implication that Future didn’t have the same maturation.
‘When you have a child — it’s very important to me. It’s no time to play around,’ she stated. ‘I am now responsible for another life, so what am I doing, how am I thinking that through?’
In 2015, she and Russell started dating, and they were engaged by March of 2016. They tied the knot that July.
