From supporting each other’s box-office hits to spending time with their four kids, the longtime couple reached new levels of success — and happiness — this year
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s relationship remains as supportive — and adorable — as ever!
From their joint summer box office takeover with the releases of Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us to their glamorous double dates with Lively’s BFF Taylor Swift and her beau Travis Kelce, the pair have been going nonstop — and that’s just when they’re away from home.
During their time outside of the spotlight, the longtime couple spends time with their four children — daughters James, 9, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and son Olin, 1 — who make life “more intimate,” according to Lively, 37.
In other words, as Reynolds turns 48 on Wednesday, Oct. 23, the two have plenty to celebrate — including their marriage, which is still “great” after 12 years together.
As the actors celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary last month, a source told PEOPLE that “Blake and Ryan are a great team when it comes to both their family and work.”
“They’re super supportive of each other. He’s very proud of her,” the source added. “They have a great marriage and love to celebrate everything they created together.”
One way they celebrate is with cozy dates, which the couple occasionally documents on his social media.
Earlier this month, The Proposal actor shared a glimpse into his life with the Gossip Girl alum as they enjoyed a cuddly dinner date at Café Chelsea in New York City. He shared a selfie of the pair as they cozied up together at the N.Y.C. spot, and added an extra touch of romance by soundtracking the post to Ella Fitzgerald’s “Autumn in New York.”
Reynolds has also pulled back the curtain on their date-night conversations, revealing that the couple’s nights out are often monopolized by one topic: their kids.
“We went on a date the other night and our oldest was going to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 us. Just for going on a date; just for tending to the relationship,” Reynolds recalled on Live with Kelly and Mark in July. “And we did, and what’s crazy is, the whole time we’re there, we just talked about [our kids].”
At the It Ends with Us premiere in August, Lively turned back time a bit, recalling the ”beautiful, romantic” beginnings of the couple’s now 12-year-long relationship — before they had “4,000 children!”
At the event — which Reynolds also attended — the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress told PEOPLE that when she and her now-husband first started dating, he would send her “a bouquet of flowers every week.”
“But,” she explained, “he would always send a card and it would just be a sentence of something that had happened that week.”
“Something funny or emotional that one of us said. It was just a little quote of the week,” she added. “It was such a beautiful, romantic thing. Now we have 4,000 children!”
Following its August premiere, It Ends with Us became Lively’s highest grossing film, surpassing 2011’s Green Lantern — which is where she and Reynolds first met.
She also made a brief cameo as Lady Deadpool in Reynolds’ and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which made its mark as the highest-grossing rated-R movie of all time.
While showing support for the Marvel film ahead of its July release, Swift, 34, also revealed that, in addition to being Lively’s BFF, she has another important role in the couple’s life: she is the godmother of Lively and Reynolds’ kids.
Referencing the actor’s Deadpool counterpart in an Instagram Stories post, the pop star wrote, “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor.”
Lively thanked Swift for praising her husband in a post of her own, writing, “Thank you @taylorswift for honoring my guy(s).”
“I couldn’t have said it better myself,” the actress added before joking, “Which is unsurprising given that I have 14 less grammys and not a single sold out stadium world tour.”
