Priyanka Chopra’s mother recently shared that navigating the film industry was particularly challenging initially due to their lack of familiarity with its workings and pitfalls.
Priyanka Chopra’s journey to global stardom was far from a cakewalk. In fact, it was not even a walk, but more of a crawl, as she endured numerous challenges along the way. From baseless gossips to purported schemes, Priyanka has faced it all. Yet, she always defied the odds, showing remarkable resilience even in the face of intense adversity, ultimately cementing her place at the top. The actor-producer has often attributed her success to the steadfast support of her family, which has been her anchor throughout.
Born to Ashok and Madhu Chopra, both physicians in the Indian Army, Priyanka first gained international attention after winning the Miss World 2000 pageant. She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002), starring opposite “Thalapathy” Vijay, and her Bollywood debut followed in 2003 with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, where she acted alongside Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Amrish Puri. Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra recently shared that navigating the film industry was particularly challenging initially due to their lack of familiarity with its workings and pitfalls.
Discussing the struggles of entering a completely unfamiliar field, Madhu Chopra shared on the Breaking Stereotypes podcast, “Film was absolutely new to us; we had stars in our eyes. I didn’t think that it was a hellhole; such negative things hadn’t come to our head. But when we actually came in, we saw the dirt in it, the bad part. Toh thoda takleef toh hoti thi shuru shuru mein (It was a little painful in the beginning).”
Despite these difficulties, Priyanka Chopra’s confidence and calm reassurances gave her parents the faith to trust her instincts. Madhu recalled, “Then Priyanka sat us down and told us, ‘Mom, you know me best; so why believe all this rubbish?’ After that, everything became all right.”
Priyanka, who was last seen in the Amazon Prime Video spy thriller series Citadel (2023), is now gearing up for her next project, the action-comedy film Heads of State, where she stars alongside Idris Elba, John Cena and Jack Quaid. Priyanka is married to American singer-songwriter and actor Nick Jonas with whom she has a daughter, Malti Marie.
