Joshua-Dubois Rematch Delayed: IBF Champion’s Two-Fight Plan Pushes It to 2026

Frank Warren says a rematch between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua is “out of the picture” for some time.

In September, the two heavyweights faced up at Wembley Stadium.

A rematch between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua will almost certainly NOT happen next year.

Dubois knocked AJ out in the fifth round when the two heavyweights met in September.

Dubois kept his IBF world title by shocking AJ with a fifth-round knockout. Although a rematch was first discussed following the bout, talks have recently stalled.

Dynamite is anticipated to make a comeback to the ring in February, but Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn believes that is much too soon.

Dubois’ agents have started negotiating with other possible opponents because AJ is still recovering from some minor injuries sustained in the September fight.

In the second half of 2025, the 27-year-old is anticipated to take on the victor of an eliminator match between Martin Bakole and Agit Kabayel; Joshua is also anticipated to face another opponent during that period.

Frank Warren claims Dubois has his sights set on other fights.

Therefore, it is highly unlikely that AJ and Dynamite will rematch next year.

“First of all, the fight Daniel had against AJ was his mandatory so he is allowed a period of time, which means he can fight in February and he’s allowed up until April or May [to make a voluntary defense],” Warren, Dubois’ promoter, clarified when discussing the issues on talkSPORT this week.

“And then it will be [for the subsequent bout] whoever the mandatory is.

“It won’t be AJ because he can’t get himself into a mandatory position because they have called for the next two guys to fight each other (Kabayel and Bakole).

“So he’s out of the picture and he will be out of the picture for a while.”

Hearn recently hinted at when AJ could return to action.

He said: “He had five fights in 18 months, he will be fine. Back in the summer.”
