Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith put on a unified front with their first joint message since he came under fire for an ‘inappropriate’ display with a female singer at the Premio Lo Nuestro award show in Miami. At the show last month, Will and the Spanish singer India Martínez put on a steamy display that seemingly culminated with a kiss, but some fans were irked due to his unusual marital relationship with Jada.

On Monday, she joined the 56-year-old A-list actor for a blended family photo as he marked National Napping Day. She didn’t seem to hold any bad blood for her husband as they posed with their son Jaden, 26, and daughter Willow, 24. Joining in the group photo to complete the family was Will’s oldest son, 32-year-old Trey Smith, from Will’s first marriage to Sheree Zampino, who also posed for the picture. Although Will and Jada didn’t directly address his controversial kiss, the Matrix series star also got to poke fun at her husband in the cheeky snap.

The two posed with their children, his first wife Sheree Zampino and their son Trey Smith for a silly picture for ‘national napping day,’ weeks after Will was slammed on line for flirting with and seemingly kissing the Spanish singer India Martínez (pictured). Will, who wore a navy Adidas track suit with red stripes, was pictured snoozing on outdoors on a veranda while Jada, Sheree and the children all made joking gestures at him. Jada, 53, who sported bleached blond hair and eyebrows, pointed down at her husband and stuck her tongue out as if to playfully mock him. ‘Someone say it was national napping day?’ Will captioned the photo.

The novelty holiday occurs the day after daylight saving time resumes, and references the tiredness many Americans will experience after losing out on an hour of sleep. The photo features Willow flashing a ‘rock on’ or devil horns symbol, while Jayden sported peace signs over his eyes and Trey just gestured join at his father as if the sight of him was ridiculous. Sheree seemed to be on the same page as Jada, as she pursed her lips and looked into the camera knowingly. Will has made an effort to keep his oldest son Trey in family gatherings, and Trey has regularly joined his father and half-siblings at public events and awards shows.  In a 2022 episode of Jada’s Red Table Talk podcast, she had Sheree on as her guest as they spoke about how they forged a relationship in the early days of Jada’s relationship with Will, who was married to Sheree from 1992 to 1995, before tying the knot with Jada in 1997.

In a 2022 episode of Jada’s Red Table Talk podcast, she and Sheree spoke about how they forged a relationship in the early days of Jada’s relationship with Will. Jada admitted that her nuptials came ‘too soon’ after Will’s divorce from his first wife.  ‘Trying to have a blended family and not really having a blueprint of that. We really had to figure it out along the way,’ she said. ‘For me, it was really about maturity. Just not understanding the marital dynamic, like, “OK, the divorce papers are sent, and people are over it, and this is done.”‘ But then she clarified that it is ‘never done,’ as the families would always be inextricably entwined. ‘So that was my biggest misconception, in that this woman is a part of this family. It’s like not only taking on Trey, but Sheree was coming along too as part of the package,’ she said.

The two women both spoke about how they had early disagreements over parenting their children, though they eventually reached an understanding and came to regard each other as good friends. The latest display of family unity was particularly striking, as Will and Jada have still left an air of mystery about their relationship. In 2020, Jada admitted to carrying on a multi-year affair with the musician Alsina during a period when she and Will were separated.  He later admitted to his own extramarital affairs, and in late 2023, Jada clarified that the two had been separated going all the way back to 2016, though she said they don’t have any plans to divorce.

Will also stripped off his shirt during the performance, showing off his body in a white t-shirt as he walked toward India, after being open about his health and fitness journey in recent years. Back in 2021 the actor revealed that he was in the ‘worst shape of his life’ after lockdown and years of gaining and losing weight for his Hollywood roles.

The confrontation took place after Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, prompting Will to make his way to the stage, slap the presenter and say ‘keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.’. ‘That was a moment that I knew I would never leave Will’s side after all those years thinking I would,’ she told Extra. ‘I didn’t go in there as his wife, but I was leaving as his wife,’ she added. ‘You know, it’s funny how intense situations can amplify love, and it was a pretty difficult time, but it definitely drew us closer. So yeah, it’s crazy how things work.’

While speaking to Daily Mail’s YOU Magazine, Pinkett Smith said ‘many positive things came after’ Smith slapped Rock. ‘After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him. ‘I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it.’

The following month, Jada sat down with Will to address the rumors regarding the status of their relationship – and decided to film the entire conversation on camera as part of her Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk. Jada confirmed that she was in an ‘entanglement’ with August – but insisted that she and Will were separated at the time.

Jada sat down with Will to address her affair on her Red Table Talk show in 2020. When Will pushed her to clarify what she meant by ‘entanglement’ she responded: ‘It was a relationship, absolutely’  ‘We were over,’ she said to Will on the episode. ‘From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August.’ However, the pair denied August’s claim that Will had given him permission to pursue the relationship with Jada. ‘One of the things I want to clear up that was kind of swirling in the press was you giving permission, which the only person who can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself,’ Jada said. ‘But what August was actually trying to communicate – because I could actually see how he would perceive it as permission because we were separated amicably – I think he also wanted to make it clear that he’s not a homewrecker, which he’s not.’

Jada confirmed that she and Will met August through their son Jaden and recalled the singer, who would have been 23 at the time, was ‘really sick’. ‘It all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state,’ she explained. Following Jada’s confession Will admitted: ‘I was done with you.’ Jada added that they decided to separate for a ‘period of time’. ‘And then what did you do, Jada?’ Will asked, as he urged his wife to keep talking.

Some of Will’s comments on the show led viewers to question whether he’d had his own dalliances in the past, as fans brought up romance rumors about him and co-star Margot Robbie, which the Barbie star has previously denied; pictured in 2016 ‘As time went on, I got into a different type of entanglement with August,’ Jada explained. When Will pushed Jada to clarify what she meant by ‘entanglement’ she responded: ‘It was a relationship, absolutely.’ She continued: ‘I was in a lot of pain, and I was very broken. In the process of that relationship I definitely realized that you can’t find happiness outside yourself.’ After Jada admitted to having an affair with the singer–songwriter, some of Will’s comments led viewers to question whether he’d had his own dalliances in the past.

The Gemini Man star said the couple had ‘made mistakes without fear of losing’ their family. ‘We came together young and we were both broken in our own ways. To be able to make mistakes without fear of losing your family is so critical,’ he said. Some viewers also picked up on Jada’s contention that Will had already gotten his revenge. ”Make mistakes’ = cheat on one another. Let’s get reals,’ wrote one person on social media.

Jada has been married to Will since 1997; the pair seen in 1995 ‘Will Smith getting through this discussion without acknowledging the women he’s been with since him & Jada have been on a break,’ tweeted another. Afterwards fans brought up romance rumors about Will and co-star Margot Robbie that date back to when they made the 2015 film Focus together. Margot, then 23, denied a liaison with Will, then 45, after Star published playful snaps of them together. One picture showed Will from behind as he wrapped his arm around Margot’s throat while they made playful faces at the camera. In another photo, Margot pulled her shirt up to expose her bra, while Will pulled his shirt up and touched his chest against her back. However after the pictures were released Margot tweeted: ‘Been working non-stop, just catching my breath. There’s absolutely no truth to the ridiculous rumor…’ adding that ‘It’s disappointing that goofing around on set could be taken so out of context’. The two actors took the photos while filming 2015’s Focus, in which Will played an experienced con man who took a young grifter, played by Margot, under his wing. Will and Margot worked together again on DC’s Suicide Squad (2016).
