Serena Williams conquered the tennis court for more than two decades…but could she now be set to follow her close friend Meghan Markle and try and conquer the kitchen too?
The athlete-turned-mumpreneur, who retired from the game that made her a sports icon in 2022, shared a post on Instagram this week that suggests she may have picked up some culinary tips from the Duchess of Sus𝓈ℯ𝓍‘s Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
The 43-year-old, who shares daughters Olympia and Adira with Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, is seen cooking up a storm in the luxe kitchen of her Los Angeles home.
Could Serena, who has a global fanbase thanks to her grand-slam winning career, be already prepping for a cameo in the second series of Meghan’s show, which Netflix has re-commissioned?
The former royal and the sporting legend have been close friends since Meghan’s Suits days and a recent post by the Duchess dubbed Serena an ‘Auntie’ in her children’s lives.
Williams certainly appears to be getting serious about improving her culinary s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, filming herself carefully making a cherry pie, strawberry leaf tea and steak on crostini.
The busy mother-of-two admitted that she was ‘in a hurry and the girls are home any minute’ as she showcased her s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, with Chappell Roan‘s Pink Pony Club providing the musical accompaniment to the clip.
As the star hastily prepared the dinner, she admitted she couldn’t remember the ‘last time I made steak’ but did hand-make the pastry from scratch and had dehydrated strawberry leaves ‘from my farm’.

The Duchess and the tennis star have been close friends for more than a decade; the pair were recently spotted having lunch together on the swish Coast Village Road in Montecito
With a second series of With Love, Meghan definitely now in the pipeline, Serena would be a natural fit to help her friend with the family-based recipes the Duchess showcased in the first series.
While Serena wasn’t a guest in the first run, she was recently seen in a clip shared by the Duchess in recent weeks.
The footage showed Serena playing a game of Candy Land with Prince Harry and Meghan’s daughter, three-year-old Lilibet.
The Duchess, 43, posted a clip on her Instagram of the trio to the backdrop of Bill Withers’ Lovely Day as she wrote: ‘When the aunties come to celebrate… and to play! Love you @serenawilliams.’
Lilibet can be seen wearing a 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 pink matching pair of leggings and top in the short clip on the social media platform.

This week, Meghan has also been showing off her baking s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s as she made green waffles to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
The Duchess shared a selection of videos to her Instagram story on Monday, using a waffle maker to create a delicious breakfast.
‘We love a theme!’ Meghan wrote alongside her post, featuring a waffle with a kiwi for a mouth, blueberries for eyes and whipped cream hair ‘for the kids’.
For her and husband Prince Harry, Meghan served a plain green waffle alongside a dollop of cream and two strawberries.
‘For us! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!’ she wrote alongside her green-themed photographs.
The Duchess was keen to show her continued love of baking – despite the release of her Netflix cookery show With Love, Meghan – earlier this month to poor critical reviews.

Meghan’s post comes after the release of her Netflix cookery show, With Love, Meghan, earlier this month
The series was panned by critics, with The Guardian describing it as a ‘gormless lifestyle filler’ and ‘so pointless it might be the Sus𝓈ℯ𝓍es’ last TV show’, while The Telegraph branded it ‘insane’ and an ‘exercise in narcissism’.
Taking to her Instagram story today, Meghan filmed herself whisking the green waffle batter, before pouring it into the waffle maker.
She captioned her post: ‘About this morning…’ and scraped the sides of the waffle maker down with a spatula.
Meghan had also made a green glass of milk to keep on theme, and finished her bake with a sprinkle of salt. She giggled as she put the final touches to the kids’ waffles.
Though it appeared to be a standard model, the waffle maker may hold a special meaning for the Duchess and her family.
In 2021, Prince Harry told James Corden that Queen Elizabeth had bought Prince Archie a waffle maker for Christmas, during an appearance on the Late Late Show.
‘My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker,’ Harry told Corden at the time.
‘She sent us a waffle maker for Archie. So breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix’ and throws it in the waffle iron. Archie’s review? ‘He loves it.’ So much so, ‘Archie wakes up in the morning and literally just goes, ‘Waffle?”
Also hidden in the video was a sneak peak at some of Meghan’s decor – including educational placemats for Archie and Lilibet, one of which featured an early-years version of the Periodic Table.
