Guy Ritchie’s New Spy Movie Just Received A Massive Blow 2 Months Before Releasing

Guy Ritchie’s upcoming spy movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, has received a huge blow just two months before it is set to release.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an upcoming spy film by Guy Ritchie, but it just received a major blow two months before it’s set to be released. Guy Ritchie has a catalog of great films to his name, but his latest spy movie has a new obstacle to overcome, and it’s a big one. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s release date is just around the corner, but the movie’s big star is fresh off a box office disaster. Henry Cavill will lead Guy Ritchie’s next project and while he has a big reputation, he may struggle to draw audiences.

Cavill’s latest movie has faced early box office struggles and could discourage people from rushing out to see another action film featuring the actor. Cavill’s Argylle was a box office flop despite having a $200 million budget invested into the project. With a strong cast, a talented director, and a seemingly fun premise, Argylle looked to have all the right tools to succeed. Instead, it appears that it will have a tough time making even close to its budget. This is awful news for Ritchie’s new spy film, as Cavill’s stock may have dropped slightly after his latest misfire.

Argylle’s Bad Box Office Creates A Worrying Trend For Henry Cavill Spy Movies

Argylle‘s poor box office performance continues a worrying trend regarding Henry Cavill’s spy films. Cavill had experience in spy movies before Argylle and struggled to make a strong box office impact. The Cold Light of Day made $25 million from its $20 million budget, while The Man from U.N.C.L.E. followed in similar footsteps, earning more than its budget, but still making an overall loss. With Argylle joining the list of box office bombs, it is clear that Henry Cavill’s spy films haven’t been working. Cavill has plenty of talent, but this genre hasn’t proven fruitful for him.

His performances in these roles haven’t been bad, but the poor track record doesn’t help sell future spy films. There have been rumors about Henry Cavill playing the next James Bond and Argylle‘s poor financial performance won’t help. It seems Cavill still has fun participating in the genre, but it is impossible to ignore his box office trend. While The Man from U.N.C.L.E. received strong reviews, The Cold Light of Day had a very cold reception from fans and critics, with Argylle proving divisive. This all points to a tough time for Cavill’s next outing… which is another spy movie.

Argylle Bombing Is Really Bad For Guy Ritchie’s New Spy Movie

With just two months separating Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly WarfareCavill’s box office bomb is terrible news for Guy Ritchie’s film. Although it isn’t guaranteed, Henry Cavill’s Argylle will likely impact The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s box office. Cavill’s spy flops becoming a trend means Ritchie’s movie will have to do something special to avoid sharing Argylle’s fate. While Ritchie’s name alone can help sell some of his movies, he has had his fair share of box office bombs in the past. Unless his movie has some great marketing in the next few months, it could struggle.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s budget is unknown and could still end up being one of 2024’s quietly successful movies. However, given Argylle had more big stars involved and a strong marketing campaign, its financial issues suggest that spy films aren’t lighting up the box office currently. Despite his acting ability, Cavill is not a safe bet in the genre either, and he couldn’t save Argylle from bombing. These trends all point to Ritchie’s movie facing an uphill struggle, but there is still some hope the movie could shine based on one previous Henry Cavill movie.

1 Henry Cavill Spy Movie Succeeded At The Box Office (But With A Twist)

Despite being involved in several box office flops, Henry Cavill did appear in one very successful spy movieMission: Impossible – Fallout was a huge financial hit, making almost $800 million from a $180 million budget. This is by far Cavill’s biggest spy movie and one of the largest box offices in his career, with only Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice earning more. Given Mission: Impossible is a massive franchise, it is no surprise Fallout was a success. However, there was another key difference between this and Cavill’s other spy flicks, as he played the movie’s main villain.

Throughout his career, Cavill has typically played heroes, so this change made the movie feel fresh and offered something different for Cavill. Unsurprisingly, the change in role proved profitable, and Cavill delivered a great performance, proving that in the right circumstances, he can be a pivotal character in a successful spy movie. The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare does look like it will give Cavill more freedom, as despite playing the lead, his character isn’t a conventional hero. The odds may be against Cavill and Ritchie, but the movie looks exciting and can hopefully break Cavill’s spy trend.
