The Beekeeper continues to cement its actin legacy as it edges closer to becoming Jason Statham’s biggest solo box office hit

This year’s action movie hit The Beekeeper continues to cement its legacy in the Jason Statham action roster, as it edges its way to becoming the biggest solo movie for The Stath at the worldwide box office. Who knew the combination of Statham and beekeeping could be so financially lucrative? But it certainly has been, with Collider first reporting that The Beekeeper recently pulled in another $5.3 million at the domestic box office, bringing that particular total to $49.4 million.

Combine that with the rest of the world’s $73.1 million and The Beekeeper now has a worldwide haul of $122.5 million, so far. With The Beekeeper still bringing in the honey, it is now expected to surpass the $125.7 million garnered by Statham’s 2016 action sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection, meaning the actor is now looking at his biggest solo release to date.

The Beekeeper finds Statham on solid ground as the mysterious Adam Clay. After losing a dear friend to a scam, Clay leaves his quiet beekeeping ways behind as he enacts a brutal campaign for vengeance. Of course, no mere lowly beekeeper, he is soon revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.”

Directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer, The Beekeeper will be led by Jason Statham, with the rest of the cast including the likes of Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, with Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.

The Beekeeper Has Been a Big Hit with Audiences

As well as bringing in his biggest box office, The Beekeeper is also now one of Statham’s biggest solo critical hits. Particularly where audiences are concerned. The Beekeeper currently stands at 70% from audiences and 92% from audiences on the review aggregator site, meaning it has the highest rating of any first entry in a Jason Statham-led franchise.

The Beekeeper has also been a critical success for director David Ayer. Known for the likes of End of Watch, Fury, Bright, and Suicide Squad, his first foray with Jason Statham scoring 92% on Rotten Tomatoes makes the action movie his highest audience score ever, beating Training Day, the 2001 crime thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke which Ayer penned the screenplay for.

Statham’s dedication to the action genre continues with Levon’s Trade, which has been written by The Stath’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone. The action thriller will see Statham take the lead as a former black-ops agent who is called back into action after his boss’s teenage daughter vanishes. Levon’s Trade is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by comic author Chuck Dixon and is looking to begin filming in March 2024 in London.

Statham is also due to reprise the role of Deckard Shaw in Fast X: Part 2 alongside Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Momoa. The eleventh installment in the Fast and Furious saga is currently scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025, and is expected to be the end of the main franchise.
