Kirk Cousins’ Wife Julie Is Excited to Move After the QB Signs with Atlanta Falcons: ‘Here We Come!’

After six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, the quarterback signed a four-year contract to play for the Atlanta Falcons on Monday

Kirk Cousins and his family are ready for their next chapter in Atlanta, Georgia.

After six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins, 35, signed a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, according to multiple reports including ESPN and The Athletic.

That same day, his wife, Julie Hampton Cousins, shared a glimpse of their family’s move from Minnesota to Atlanta on social media. “Packing up to head south… great time to play some instruments,” Julie, 35, wrote in an Instagram story, adding, “Atlanta, here we come!” at the bottom of the post.

The video showed their sons, Turner, 5, and Cooper, 6, strumming a guitar and playing with a keyboard while suitcases lined the family’s home as they packed their bags into the car.

In a second post on Monday, Julie filmed the family’s Australian Labradoodle, Abe, who was apparently not thrilled by the move to Georgia.

“This guy is the only one not excited about traveling south,” Julie wrote in the video on her story.

And on Tuesday, Julie shared updates from the family’s long roadtrip, including a pit stop in Kentucky. “Had to stop at the Ark Encounter on our way to the ATL,” Julie wrote.

The Ark Encounter is a life-sized Noah’s Ark recreation, “built according to the dimensions given in the Bible,” according to the exhibit’s website. The installation, located in Williamstown, spans 510 feet long and 51 feet high.

Cousins will be returning to the field this fall with the Falcons after he suffered a season-ending tear to his Achilles tendon in October. He immediately underwent a successful surgery, and is hoping for a new start in Atlanta.

In November, the quarterback told PEOPLE he’s never doubted his career in football, even when times get tough.

“I’ve never gone to work and wondered if I should be doing something else for a living or if I’m in the wrong career, or if I need to switch jobs,” said Cousins, who starred in Netflix’s Quarterbackdocuseries last year alongside Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota.

“I think that’s a real blessing in and of itself, to go to work every day and feel like you’re living a dream,” he explained.

And although Cousins doesn’t think his sons “know what the word ‘retire’ means just yet,” he said they’re “starting” to become more intrigued by their dad’s NFL career. “They’re just starting to get it now,” he explained. “They’re 6 and 4, and so they’re watching football on TV. They’re starting to learn the mascots and the jerseys and the colors.”

“Hopefully, in a few more years when I do retire, they’ll both really be able to remember it all,” said Cousins.
