The nine time Grammy Award-winning singer, 51, recently revealed her reasons for not wanting children during an interview with E!’s Daily Pop.

‘I like my freedom to go and move and do what I want to do. I don’t want to have to tend to someone all the time,’ the Good Morning Gorgeous hitmaker said.

When asked if there might come a day she will regret her decision not to have kids, the star replied, ‘I’m not there yet, so I’m good.’

She went on to add, ‘I have nieces and nephews forever and I’m always watching how people are scrambling for 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢sitters. I don’t want to go through that.’

The songwriter and actress also made it clear that her stance probably won’t change in the future: ‘I don’t think it’s gonna happen.’

Blige – who rocked the Super Bowl halftime show stage last month – was previously a stepmom to her ex-husband Kendu Isaacs’ three children.

The singer married Isaacs on December 7, 2003, but filed for divorce in July 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalized in 2018.

The New York native opens up about the pain of divorce on her recently released 15th album, Good Morning Gorgeous, and told the New York Times magazine earlier this month that she hopes her honesty helps her fans heal as well.

‘I don’t think people care about the details too much. They just care about the part that they can relate to directly with you. “Me too, girl, me too.” They don’t even care about how you got on that floor. They just know that you were down there — with them. I just give them enough to say, “Me, too. I’m hurting too,”‘ she said.

The singer revealed that this new path feels right to her: ‘It feels like this is what I’m supposed to be doing.’

She went on to say, ‘I got a divorce, you know: OK, Mary, how’d you get through this? Because the world saw you go through all this. It’s an assignment for me to do that. It might not be everybody else’s assignment. But there are a lot of women who love me and respect me and follow me, and want to know — not the details, but how to get to the other side.’
