Pittsburgh Steelers Starting Justin Fields Over Russell Wilson? Expert Makes Bold Prediction

Despite Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin saying that Russell Wilson is in “pole position” to become the starting quarterback, some are still predicting Justin Fields to win the job.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers take the field for their Week 1 game against an opponent that hasn’t been officially announced yet, who will be their starting quarterback?

Russell Wilson is the popular answer right now, as since he has signed with the Steelers, all signs have seemingly pointed to him being the starter. Coach Mike Tomlin even went as far as to say that he is in “pole position” to do so.

However, NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal predicted in a recent article that the veteran Wilson will be beaten out by Justin Fields.

Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are such similar players. I expect the Steelers will go with the younger, more explosive version once they see them side by side,” Rosenthal writes. “Even if Wilson wins the Week 1 job, Fields is my pick to play the most games.

Fields was, at times, a human highlight reel for the Bears. He also had head-scratching moments that left you wondering why he would ever be drafted in the first round.

I would argue that the Bears failed Fields more often than the other way around. Chicago has been mired in mediocrity since losing the Super Bowl XLI. In that span, they’ve only made the playoffs on three occasions.

In 40 games with the Bears, Fields threw for 40 touchdowns while also throwing 30 interceptions. The Bears’ defense in that same time frame has never been ranked higher than No. 19 in scoring defense.

The offensive line was full of holes, and Fields ran for his life many times. Not to mention the reports of toxic relationships with coaches and players; it was just a bad situation for Fields overall.
