Inside Madonna’s physical world: The Queen of Pop’s most famous outfits go on display for one night only at temporary exhibition

Madonna’s most iconic costumes – including THAT cone bra corset – were put on display at the Macy’s Fashion Evolution pop up exhibit on Thursday.

Hosted by Material Girl – the fashion brand Madonna co-created with her 16-year-old daughter Lourdes – the exhibition provided a retrospective of looks from her concerts, music videos and personal collection.

Some of the notable outfits on show were her Like A Virgin wedding dress, complete with lace gloves and pearls, and the elegant Marilyn Monroe-style Oscars gown the singer donned in 1991.

It also featured the famous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra corsets Madonna wore during her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour.

And shoppers could also see the Marilyn Monroe-inspired dress Madonna wore to the 1991 Oscars – as Michael Jackson’s date.

In a photo from the awards show, Madonna – born Madonna Louise Ciccone in Bay City, Michigan, is pictured in the sparkling white gown, which she accessorized with a fluffy boa and lots of diamonds.

Each of the looks were displayed alongside pictures of the singer wearing them in the past.

The costumes, handpicked by Madonna, now 56, were exhibited in the Century City, California department store, surrounded by clothes from the Material Girl line.

‘This was one of the most shocking, liberating and influential moments in pop culture . . . Fashion has never been the same’

Shoppers and celebrity guests were able to observe how the singer’s own style through the years has influenced the teen-targeted brand.

‘The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line,’ said the Queen of Pop. ‘[It] will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years.’

Arianne Philips, Madonna’s longtime stylist, helped curate the fashion exhibition.

She said of the Like A Virgin look: ‘This was one of the most shocking, liberating and influential moments in pop culture/fashion history. . . Fashion has never been the same.’

Outfits from her music videos were also on show, including the black leather motorcycle jacket and T-shirt from her Papa Don’t Preach video.

Another ensemble – which includes a denim jacket worn backwards, purple leggings and a black and green skirt – was designed by Vivienne Westwood and the late artist Keith Haring.

Ms Philips said of the colorful look: ‘This embodies the energy and expression/explosion of the street and club culture that Madonna was born out of.’

In total, Madonna chose eight outfits to be shown at the event, which lasted just two hours, from six to eight in the evening.

From the closet: The performer handpicked eight looks in total to be displayed at the pop-up event in Century City, California, which lasted just two hours

Celebrity guests at the event included Vanessa Hudgens, Annasophia Robb, Darren Criss and Ireland Baldwin.

Miss Robb, 19, said of the exhibition: ‘It’s really wonderful of her to be able to put herself out there for people [who] really look up to her and admire that bold sense of fashion that she has.’

Madonna and her daughter Lourdes launched Material Girl in 2010.

The line, which is geared towards teenage girls, is available exclusively at Macy’s
