Against All Odds: The Boys Season 4 Breaks Viewership Records Amidst Intense Review Bombing.

Despite cases of review bombing, the fourth season of The Boys breaks a new viewing record. Erik Kripke created the successful series, which premiered on Prime Video in 2019.

It imagines a world in which superheroes are corrupt and abuse their authority. The show has been well received by critics thus far, and The Boys’ season 4 reviews mainly maintain this pattern, but the new season has also been subjected to review bombing on sites such as Rotten Tomatoes.

According to a new claim from TheWrap, season 4 of The Boys has hit a new viewing record. The new season’s first four days of availability on the site experienced a 21% increase in viewing over season 3, which held the previous record. According to Amazon, season 4 ranks second on Prime Video’s top five TV shows in its first four days, trailing Reacher season 2.

How The Boys’ Season 4 Reviews Compare To Past Seasons

Season 4’s Review Bombing Explained

The Boys has been well-reviewed throughout its run thus far, and season 4 is no exception. The show has been praised for its skewering humor, satirical exploration of politics, as well as for its shocking moments of violence and gore. The performances from The Boys‘ cast have also been widely celebrated.

The Boys Season Rotten Tomatoes Critics’ Score Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score
1 85% 90%
2 97% 83%
3 98% 75%
4 95% 49%

As seen in the chart above, The Boys season 4 is currently the second-lowest rated season on Rotten Tomatoes, though that’s hardly a knock against it considering it’s still at a strong 95%. Season 3 currently leads the pack with an impressive 98%. Where things start to differ is in the show’s audience scores. After being consistently high for the previous three seasons, season 4 only sports a 49% audience score, the show’s lowest ever.

While it’s likely that season 4 isn’t as popular with some viewers as prior seasons, The Boys season 4 has been review-bombed in response to Kripke’s statements. The show’s politics have never been particularly veiled, but many who are still finding it out have criticized the current season for being “woke.” Kripke recently responded to these accusations in an interview with THR by saying, “Go watch something else.” Those that are offended by The Boys season 4 are clearly in the minority, since the show continues to be a ratings success.
