There are a lot of things Kate Middleton has to worry about. Her health. The wellbeing of her family. And the future state of the commonwealth. But one thing she does not worry about “too much” is how her kids act.
“Louis is an energetic child and clearly was unable to contain his excitement at being at a public event,” a source told OK! about the young prince’s appearance at Trooping the Colour. “Kate doesn’t worry about their behavior too much. She loves to see them being kids.”

And not only do we love to hear that Middleton is fine with her kids — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 who she shares with Prince William — not being so stuffy, but we know her late mother-in-law would have loved it too.

Princess Diana, who shared Prince William and Prince Harry with King Charles III and tragically died in 1997, always encouraged her sons to be kids. Dubbed “The People’s Princess,” Diana was known for putting motherhood and family before royalty. And we have the receipts. She was always fighting off photographers so her kids could enjoy as normal a vacation as possible, she rode rollercoasters and water rides with them, and she let them bury her in the sand at the beach.
It was quite the departure from her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, who had a more reserved relationship with her kids (at least publicly) and did seem to expect then-Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward to always act regally. That’s why it was so surprising to read the former monarch’s intimate and private handwritten letter to her midwife that is currently up for auction. In the note, she opened up about the realities of being a new mom of two — and how little Charles was getting “fatter.”
This is not the first time insiders have claimed that Middleton wants her kids to be able to act their age. This has become especially true given the difficulties they must be facing watching her go through chemotherapy. “The summer is when Kate just wants the kids to be kids and get to be a little freer,” a royal insider said last month. “And this summer, more than ever, is going to be all about the kids.”
