Erin Moriarty, who stars in The Boys as Annie January aka Starlight, has stated that she is no longer ‘heartbroken’ by conflicting remarks about her appearance on social media.
Since her debut as Starlight in Prime Video’s first season of The Boys in 2019, internet opinions on Moriarty’s appearance have been progressively negative in recent years.
Many think the diva underwent plastic surgery, with some calling it a “addiction” and others claiming she had “ruined” her face, which prompted her to remove her social media after publishing a lengthy statement.
Moriarty wrote in a now-deleted post back in January, “This is something I truly never anticipated writing.”
“We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things,” she added.
She continued by stating that she was “horrified by the reaction, the reductive assumptions, and the aforementioned video that is a primary example of such harassment.”
“It’s broken my heart. You’ve broken my heart,” she concluded.
However, she has since reactivated her account and has limited her comments on each post.
While talking with The New York Times, Moriarty revealed that “for a few months, I thought my career was over.”
She added that she believed that to be the case “because there was so much attention brought to something that I was told never to address.”
Moriarty’s The Boys co-star Karen Fukuhara, who plays Kimiko, told the New York Times: “I was really worried about her for a period of time, nobody is bulletproof, even though I think she’s close to it.”
Amid the online speculation increasing about Moriarty’s appearance, she was harassed both on and offline as paparazzi were eager to get snaps of her in public.
Although the online trolling initially broke her heart, Moriarty has since been contacted by various women online who have reached out with their own stories.
Now she says the whole ordeal has toughened her up.
“I had left it on a note where I’d explicitly said that I had been heartbroken by the comments,” she said.
She added: “Now, I’m not heartbroken. I’m galvanized.”
