What Does The Boys’ Season 4 Finale’s Pashmina Mean?

The Boys’ Season 4, Episode 8 features a furious dispute between Jack Quaid’s character Hughie Campbell and Erin Moriarty’s character Annie January/Starlight. Hughie’s failure to recognize that Annie has been replaced by a shapeshifter is the source of their argument, especially after he divulges the number of times they shared a bed.

As Annie lambastes Hughie, he starts listing the things that tipped him off to the face that she had been replaced. This included the “designer dress” the shifter wore at home around him and the fact that she “found [her] car keys on the first try:”

“You want to know how I knew it wasn’t you? In the apartment she wore some designer dress, and you always ditch your bra for sweats as soon as you get home. She found your car keys on the first try, and you have never, ever found your car keys in under 15 minutes.”

However, his biggest red flag was that the shifter was sweating whereas Annie has “always been and always will be 90% pashmina:”

“But the final clue: in the bunker, she was sweating, and you have always been and always will be 90% pashmina. I love that about you. All your weird, amazing fucked-up-ness, that’s what makes you you.”

For those who don’t know, pashmina is a kind of wool used to make shawls and scarves that is frequently likened to cashmere. The material is typically used for warmth and can be included into outfits that range from dressy to casual.

Hughie’s statement suggests that Annie is always cold and frequently needs to wrap herself in a pashmina or similar item of clothing to stay warm. Hughie concluded that the Supe ran significantly hotter because the shapeshifter was perspiring, indicating that this was obviously not his girlfriend.

Where Will Annie and Hughie Go In The Boys Season 5?

After Hughie’s unintentional betrayal, Annie begrudgingly comes to terms with what he did with the duplicate version of her, although that will be the least of their worries moving forward.

The biggest of those issues is the new reign of terror enacted by Antony Starr’s Homelander after having the new President of the United States declare Martial Law and send out hundreds of Supes on patrol all over the country.

Hughie and Annie escape at the end of the episode, but they are soon apprehended by Cindy, played by Ess Hödlmoser, a telekinetic Superhero who hasn’t been seen since Season 2.

As Homelander pursues Annie, she uses her talents to shoot off and soar off into the sky, leaving Hughie behind. Annie then heads off to an unidentified place.

This happens after Butcher, who enters Season 5 with a terrifying new superpower, gets captured by Vought along with the remaining members of The Boys.

Annie and Hughie will be in danger if Homelander uses all of his incredible power to try and destroy their squad in the one remaining season of The Boys.

And all hell is about to break loose in a way that even The Boys’ first four seasons never did, with the entire weight of the US government behind him.
