Priyanka Chopra reveals challenging cultural differences with Nick Jonas that she ‘found really difficult’: ‘I had to learn…’

Priyanka Chopra recently shared insights into the cultural differences between her and her husband, Nick Jonas, highlighting how, six years into their marriage, they have found a harmonious balance. Despite both coming from large families, their upbringings were quite distinct, prompting them to learn and unlearn certain aspects to adapt to each other’s cultures.

In a recent interview on the Read the Room podcast, Priyanka expressed their mutual appreciation for each other’s backgrounds. “He loved everything about India, and I grew up in the States, which was literally my second home. So we embraced each other’s cultures in a big way. But it was the cultural things that were different,” she explained.

Priyanka then spoke about how an Indian family like hers would “speak over each other’s sentences” but this wasn’t the case with the Jonas family. She shared that such things “were really hard for me to learn.” “Before you finish your sentence, I know what you are saying so I am just going to tell you. That’s just how we are culturally. We are just like, ‘let’s just go!’. We are loud and every one speaks over each other. So for Nick, he had to learn to cut people off, he had to learn to speak over everyone. He is like, ‘aye, I am saying this!’. I had to learn how to wait, let someone finish their sentence. I’m like, ‘I know what you are saying but I’ll wait for you to finish’,” she shared.

Priyanka said that this was a big shift for her even though she had spent a significant part of her life in the US during her teen years. Nick, who had never spent much time in India before marrying Priyanka, has now visited India multiple times. He was recently in the country for multiple weeks as he celebrated the festival of Holi with his wife and her extended family.

Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in 2018. The couple welcomed their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas in 2022.
