Oscar De La Hoya Throws Shade at Eddie Hearn Over Joshua’s Dubois Loss: “Can’t Build a Fighter!”

It’s no secret that Oscar De La Hoya and Eddie Hearn are not on the best of terms. Hence ‘The Golden Boy’ made sure to slam his fellow promoter, after Anthony Joshua faced a devasting KO loss this past weekend.

For context, ‘AJ’, promoted by Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, has been on a tear following his back-to-back losses against former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. He was on a four-fight win streak when he faced Daniel Dubois on Sept. 21.

However, the Briton was outclassed by ‘Dynamite’, and ultimately succumbed to a fifth-round KO. In the recent segment on De La Hoya’s ‘Clapback Thursdays’, the former world champion slammed Joshua’s manager Hearn, saying:

“Some of my frenimies had a really sh*tty weekend… Anthony Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round by Dubois. It was actually an amazing fight, and I like ‘AJ’, however, this was another huge L for Eddie Hearn, who is literally 0-11 to Frank Warren this year!

De La Hoya’s “0-11” remark is a call back to when Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing went 0-10 to Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions in their inaugural 5 vs. 5 boxing event in Riyadh in June. Now ‘The Golden Boy’ has added Joshua’s loss to that record, since Dubois is promoted by Warren.

Furthermore, in his rant, De La Hoya faulted Hearn for Joshua’s slipping career, saying:

“This continues the Matchroom curse, meaning if you sign with Matchroom you’re either guaranteed to lose or get injured… Eddie, you cant build a fighter to save your life. Anthony Joshua had the world at his finger tips and you found a way to fumble his career”

When Eddie Hearn clapped back on Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘Clapback Thursdays’

Oscar De La Hoya was not thrilled with Canelo Alvarez choosing to fight Edgar Berlanga in his latest outing. Sure enough, he voiced his dissent on one of his ‘Clapback Thursdays’ segments.

The boxing legend believed that Alvarez vs. Berlanga was a fight no one asked for. Eddie Hearn believes ‘The Golden Boy’ should use his ‘Clapback Thursdays’ to promote the fighters he has and not obsess over the ones he lost. In an interview with DAZN, the Macthroom Boxing chairman said:

“His ‘Clapback Thursdays’ or whatever, I think it’s quite a good idea, but he spends every ‘Clapback Thursday’ talking about Canelo Alvarez. I mean, [rather than] slagging off the fight on DAZN, which is his broadcaster, he could be promoting his own fighters. [Gilberto] ‘Zerdo’ Ramirez, [William] Zepeda, [Jaime] Munguia.”
