Prince Harry and Meghan Markle embarked on a 16-day royal tour to Australia just five months after their wedding, but it seems they didn’t bond with the reporters
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been slammed for their “rude” comment to royal reporters as they headed back from a 16-day tour.
Just five months after their lavish wedding, the couple embarked on a royal tour of Australia. The newlyweds headed to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand in October 2018, with their tour coinciding with the Invictus Games in Sydney.
The trip was unforgettable for the couple as it coincided with the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy. However, it was also memorable for the journalists accompanying Meghan and Harry and not necessarily for the right reasons.

Former royal correspondent Valentine Low was one of the reporters on the flight back from Tonga to Sydney. Speaking on the latest episode of HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, he admitted he found the couple’s behaviour very “rude”.
“We were flying from Tonga back to Sydney. And often on these tours, there comes a point towards the end, when the royal might come back to the back of the plane and have a chat with us off the record, you know, not for printing,” Valentine said.
He explained how it was a way for the Royal Family to “make bonds” with the reporters. He said they had been promised Meghan and Harry were going to go to the back of the plane to speak to them, however, it didn’t happen.
Valentine explained: “It didn’t happen and this was a four or five-hour flight, ‘When’s this gonna happen?’.” He added: “Only after we landed, they came back into the back of the plane.”
According to the royal expert, Harry walked slightly ahead of his wife and the Duchess of Sus𝓈ℯ𝓍 “didn’t say much”. However, Valentine noted she did make one “strange remark”.
He explained: “She did make some strange remark about us wanting to get back for our Sunday lunch. And it was completely bizarre.” However, he said it was Harry’s comment which was the most memorable. Valentine told the podcast hosts: “He said, ‘Thanks very much for coming, even though you weren’t invited’.” Harry’s comment left the reporters confused, with many wondering why he had been so “rude”.
