In a recent episode of SportsCenter on NFL on ESPN, host Laura Rutledge was joined by Falcons QB Kirk Cousins and 49ers TE George Kittle to talk about their love for golf and discuss the offseason. Cousins openly shared his love for golf during the interview, mentioning how he used to travel for an hour each way from his hometown in Michigan just to play golf at his favorite course. However, as he grew older, this commute became tiresome. So, like many people would, he decided to take action. He purchased a nearby golf course and intended to make it exactly how he wanted it after he was done with football.

Cousins expressed, “We built our home in my hometown in Saugatuck, Michigan and I was driving about an hour to play a golf course that I loved. It was the highlight of my summer but I was driving an hour there an hour back and I looked at my wife and I said this isn’t sustainable. We could either move or if we like where we live maybe we could bring the Golf Course to us.”

He continued that then they decided to explore bringing a golf course closer to him. After asking around, they found a course just a few minutes from their house whose owner was willing to sell. Cousins proposed buying it and maintaining it until he finished playing football, with plans to improve it afterward. They agreed, and now Cousins has dreams of tweaking the course in the future.

On the other hand, Kittle also admitted to building a six-hole course in his backyard. The duo’s love for golf seems to prosper forever in their future, even after their retirement.

Meanwhile, Cousins even has a small setup in his backyard with five or six holes, which he enjoys playing every day after workouts, using just a six iron. And he intends to keep the golf course property fun for his community.

After signing a one-year, $35,000,000 extension last offseason in March 2022, Kirk Cousins invested in the Clearbrook Golf Course in Allegan County, Saugatuck, Michigan. The club has been a community fixture for nearly a century, and Cousins aims to preserve its heritage. He purchased the golf course from Jim and Candy Jeltema, who owned it for 38 years. The sale ensures the course remains a golfing destination for future generations. Jeltema, however, retains ownership of the clubhouse restaurant, while Cousins acquired the golf course property. Cousins, a Michigan native, expressed his commitment to the community by acquiring the club. He valued the course’s history and plans to maintain its legacy.

The sale reflected shared values between Cousins and the previous owners, who both prioritized preserving the golf course and restaurant for the community. After acquiring the course, Cousins also wrote a letter to the community, saying, “Our family recently purchased the Clearbrook Golf Course from our friends and longtime owners, Jim and Candy Jeltema. They have managed the course for many years, making Clearbrook a place of connection and fun for our entire community.”

And as per the reports, the course is located 35 miles away from Grand Rapids and only 10 minutes from the quaint tourist town of Holland. It’s well known for hosting golf events such as the Michigan Open qualifiers and the West Michigan PGA Championship.
