Jemima Khan has been forced to backtrack after saying that Kate Middleton does not have “heir-bearing” hips on Twitter.

The socialite posted a string of messages on her JemKhan feed appearing to criticise Prince William’s fiance for being too thin, but was forced to withdraw the remarks following a storm of criticism.

She initially tweeted: “Kate Middleton – those are not heir-bearing hips are they? Unfeasibly narrow.”

The 36-year old later backtracked and said: “I wasn’t being unkind… Wouldn’t every girl like to have unfeasibly narrow hips? Who wants to be described as having child bearing ones?”

She went on to delete the original tweet, adding: “There – deleted the “unfeasibly” as what I meant is she’s v trim and lovely.”

She then posted another message saying: “Kate Middleton- those are not heir bearing hips are they?”

One user, supernova_nano, responded: “so u deleted ur “unfeasibly” idiotic tweet? u r as good as ur deleted tweets”.

Minutes later Khan wrote “Oh… WHATEVVVVER.”

She had previously posted a message commenting on Miss Middleton’s decision to refer to herself as Catherine in the official engagement announcement.

“Didn’t her parents get used to calling her Catherine quickly? My father was grumpy for months when someone suggested a Muslim name for me,” she wrote.

Khan is among several high profile figures who have faced criticism for being less than complimentary about Prince William and his future wife.

The Bishop of Willesden, the Rt Rev Pete Broadbent, was suspended for likening the couple to “shallow celebrities” and predicting that the Royal marriage would “not last seven years”.
