Layzie Bone: Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake Is ‘Counterproductive’

Layzie Bone Claims Kendrick Lamar & Drake Beef Is ‘Counterproductive’ To Hip Hop

Layzie Bone is not here for the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef – or any beef in Hip Hop, for that matter.

The legendary Bone Thugs-N-Harmony hitmaker spoke about the recent feud while sitting down with The Maikon Show podcast on Saturday (May 11). Having seen what beef did firsthand to some of his favorite artists in the ’90s, the rapper said he’d rather see things go a different way.

“I totally don’t like [Kendrick and Drake beefing] because I’m a fan of both of theirs,” Layzie began. “I love Drake. I really, really admire Drake. I think his wordplay is immaculate. The music he put out is dope. I love Kendrick Lamar. Really love Kendrick Lamar. I would rather see them come together as a force as opposed to tearing down.

“I know a lot of people say [Hip Hop] was built on beef and all that – yeah, cool fine and dandy but I saw what that did to N.W.A. I’m cut from that cloth. I was fortunate enough to be a kid on the block living that life, that story they was telling. Having that be my favorite group and then that time they spent beefing and wasting.”

He continued: “I also got to see Eazy-E wanting to put his group back together but they couldn’t because they wasted so many times and he ended up passing away. I saw what it did to Biggie and Pac. It’s divisive. To me, it’s counterproductive to where we could really be. It’s cool, I could battle rap. I could write a rap about you and what I think is funny and make people laugh or humiliate you and try to make you seen in a light that you don’t wanna see yourself in.

“But I don’t feel like… Maybe I’m older. But it’s not a place that I wanna be in because if you really gon’ beef, I think you should try boxing or MMA or something like that. Really get it in and then go have a beer about it.”

You can watch the full interview below. The Drake and Kendrick conversation begins around the 30-minute mark.

Like Layzie Bone, Charlamagne Tha God is also not a fan of the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar – though his reasoning is slightly different.

During an episode of The Breakfast Club that aired on May 6, the media personality made it clear that he’s not a fan of both MCs tearing each other down with accusations of domestic violence and 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual misconduct, both of which have been key themes in the contest.

“I don’t like seeing these brothers Me Tooing each other over a rap feud,” he added. “To me, that’s corny. Like if you’re going to call somebody a pedophile, if you’re going to call someone a woman beater, you got to have some real proof.

“You’re going to accuse my friend and my girl of having a 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢, and me thinking that that child is mine — those are some heavy accusations. It’s not like they’re trying to hold each other accountable; they’re just throwing these types of accusations around to attempt to ruin the image of the other, and that’s whack to me.”

He concluded: “Other than that, it’s been great.”
