The Boys’ showrunner Eric Kripke hints at more than “five seasons”

Yes, it appears like The Boys will go far longer than its originally announced “five season” run.

“No one was more wrong in all of human history.” 😅

Eric Kripke, showrunner of The Boys, has spoken out about his previous comments about how the hugely successful Prime Video series would most certainly last for “five seasons”.

Although the streamer has not revealed how long The Boys will run, it has announced further seasons and spinoffs such as Gen V, which will also have multiple installments.

During a Q&A on X (Twitter) in 2020, Kripke revealed that his beloved The Boys series would last for a “total” of “five seasons”.

He then contrasted it to his other renowned series, Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons despite having a similar five-season plan at the start.

“My last show, Supernatural, I said five seasons for sure, and then that f***er went 15,” he said. “So I’m mostly going to keep my mouth shut, but creatively five feels like a good round number.”

Now, years later, Prime Video has officially renewed The Boys for a fifth season but contrary to Kripke’s original “five-season” answer – the streamer did not state that it would be the final season.

While talking with Inverse, Kripke said on the matter: “I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go.”

He added: “Someone pointed that out to me and I was like, ‘You’re right. That’s ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.’ And so I will.”

The outlet also pointed out that Amazon boss Vernon Sanders hinted that the show wouldn’t be ending anytime soon while speaking with Entertainment Weekly.

Sanders said: “Eric [Kripke] has had a vision for what this all leads to for years now, and we’ve been in an ongoing conversation about what comes next.”

“So, it’s probably premature to talk about that beyond saying we believe in Eric, and if Eric is interested in continuing the story, we’ll be the first ones in line to really work with him on what that is.”

Fans are already wondering if Kripke’s The Boys may endure as long as Supernatural’s spectacular fifteen-season run, albeit with more spinoffs – and no one seems to be against it.

“No one in human history has been more wrong about the number of seasons their show will last than this guy. So I’m not going to make the same mistake twice,” Kripke stated.

He joked that: “Guinness World Record of who is dumbest about how long their show should go, there would literally be a picture of me.”

The fourth season of The Boys will premiere on Prime Video on June 13, 2024.
