Serena Williams is calling it — Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” is now the “hit of the summer.”

On Saturday (July 6) while at speaking on a panel at ESSENCE Fest 2024, the mother of two made the declaration.

Though moderator Cari Champion was hesitant initially to discuss the record, Williams shared, “I love that song. It’s like the hit of the summer. When they play that jam, I’m jamming. That jam is jamming.”

The Compton native later shared, “You definitely Crip walking in that song. It’s so cool what he did though. Bringing everyone to the stage? That was incredible… I couldn’t believe it.”

Williams was referring to K. Dot’s Juneteenth Pop Out concert, where he had different sets onstage in peaceful harmony.

Her reaction to “Not Like Us” stems from her history with Drake. The two were rumored to be romantically involved as early as 2011 when he tweeted, “@serenawilliams I cannot wait to put it on you and make you sweat……….during our match this weekend.” In 2015, TMZ caught them making out.

However, she married Alexis Ohanian in 2017 and by 2022, Drake was throwing shots at the happy couple.

On “Middle of the Ocean,” he rapped, “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie/ He claim we don’t got a problem but/ No, boo, it is like you comin’ for sushi.”

Ohanian responded with this epic tweet: “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do—including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter.”
