Urfi Javed: I Can’t Live Without Being Photographed– The Unfiltered Reality Behind The Fame

“I am very scared of losing my fame. I have been working for this and I cannot imagine a day when I am not popular or famous. It might be a good life, but it is not for me.” says Urfi Javed with candour.

You would have to be living under a rock, if you are not aware of Urfi Javed, or haven’t heard her name in some way or the other. As you scroll down social media, a reeler post of Urfi is bound to pop up on our feed. For those who do not know her, she is a former Big Boss contestant, who turned into a social media sensation, with her bold and outlandish fashion choices.

Her indifference and nonchalance irked many, and as she gears up for her reality show on Prime Video, aptly titled “Follow Kar Lo Yaar”, Urfi confesses her reality is way weirder than her reality.

“I attract drama, my life is very dramatic”, she says with a casual shrug.A no-holds-barred show, it gives a fly-on-the-wall insight into the world of Urfi Javed. As she gets ready to flaunt another zany outfit, or as she squabbles with her friends, and family mouthing profanities, or makes a startling entry at a party. Even though she thrives on her “I don’t give a damn” personality, there is also a girl who is constantly seeking validation, as she takes the viewer along to her therapy sessions.

“It has been difficult for me. I never expected to be where I am today, even though I wanted it badly. No one thought I would get to do a show like this, where the main subject is me,” she says.

What strikes one is when she unabashedly confesses that she has very high ambitions, and one show cannot be her ultimate destination. Urfi has often spoken about a childhood, which was deprived of parental love and support. She reveals fame is the vindication for all that was previously denied to her. “I never got the love and respect as a child from my parents. It is a deep rooted issue, the need to get validation from the entire world. I am an over-ambitious achiever. I was emotionally manipulated as a child to even get a word of acknowledgement. I won’t stop until I get appreciation from the world.”

On one hand, she irked the purists with her provocative outfits, which often left little to the imagination, On the other, she derided the designers and the so-called elite who chose to ignore and snub her. But the creative Urfi managed to create her signature style, which was as ludicrous as it was amusing.

Urfi calls out the prevalent hypocrisy, saying had I not been allowed to be part of this show, no one would have called me a success, rather from it.

“I know many times if someone is dressed in a revealing fashion, they are mocked and dissed for being inspired by me. They slut-shame women using my name. If they are wearing something avant-garde, no one mentions my name. But I hope to stop all the insults and turn those imto compliments someday”, she says.

Though she finally seems to be getting a nod of recognition from Bollywood, she says it is not my industry and neither am I part of it.” If people think this show is my way of showing all my naysayers what I can do, nothing like that. Yes, for many it’s unbelievable I got a show, well it was a surprise for me too, but I am not belittling anyone, says Urfi.

Ask her who is the ultimate symbol of success and fame, “Shahrukh Khan”, she answers with honesty.
