Reese reportedly made $73,439 this season playing for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky
Angel Reese is opening up about her finances.
The 22-year-old basketball star revealed how much she pays in monthly rent for her apartment — and how her annual salary from playing in the WNBA doesn’t cover her living expenses — during a recent Instagram Live, which was re-uploaded by a fan account on X (formerly Twitter).
“I just hope y’all know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese told her followers. “I don’t even think it pays one of my bills, literally.”
The Chicago Sky forward then admitted she was unsure of her salary from the WNBA — according to Sportrac, it was $73,439 this season — before calculating whether or not it would cover her rent alone. After doing the math on her $8,000 a month rent, Reese joked, “I’m living beyond my means!”
Instead of her WNBA salary, Reese said, “Hatin’ pays them bills 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢,” seemingly referring to the large audience she’s built on social media.
Even before she was drafted by the league, Reese was one of the top earning NIL athletes alongside Bronny James and Olivia Dunne. Currently, the Sky star has deals with Reebok, Hersey’s Reese’s Piece’s, Beats by Dr. Dre and Good American.
She also hosts her own podcast, Unapologetically Angel, and creates branded content on her popular Instagram and TikTok accounts..
After the clip of Reese discussing her salary and rent went viral, users on social media were quick to critique her spending habits.
Reese took to Twitter to laugh off the concern that she was actually living beyond her means, resharing a post that said, “Do y’all not see the collaborations and endorsements Angel has? I’m sure she doesn’t see that 8k leave her account.”
“Sister these folks don’t use common sense at all….,” Reese wrote in response to the post.

She also shared a post that read, “People will clown WNBA salaries then get mad at a player for figuring out how to get to other bags in the offseason,” with a photo of the Sky star walking the red carpet at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York.
This week, Reese joined three-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson on the cover of Wall Street Journal in a story about the league’s growing success.
In another post shared by Reese on X, a user wrote, “Angel on the cover of the Wall Street Journal and y’all think she can’t afford rent lol.”
