Some revealed images show Nick Jonas and Miss World preparing horses and elephants for a traditional wedding.
Last Saturday night, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra got married in a Western ceremony conducted by the groom’s father. The next day, the couple continued their wedding in the Hindu tradition of Priyanka’s native India, the Bombay Times reported.
The wedding took place at dusk at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. The American singer attended the traditional safa ceremony of the bride’s family. He wore a turban and rode a horse to the wedding.
The horse was prepared for the couple’s traditional Indian wedding.
After Nick Jonas arrived to meet the bride, he and Priyanka rode an elephant around the palace and headed to the wedding venue. The bride wore a traditional red sari, while Nick also wore a traditional Indian groom’s outfit.
The elephant is decorated with paint and has a seat on its back.
Earlier in the day, they had a two-hour breakfast, followed by a traditional haldi ceremony at 12:30 p.m. During the ceremony, the bride and groom are covered with a turmeric powder on their hands, feet, face and neck by their family members to ward off evil spirits. The palace hall was decorated with marigolds during the ceremony, and guests were required to wear pink, orange and purple.
The Daily Mail has just revealed a photo of Priyanka wearing a red sari taken from a distance and quite blurry.
Guests were banned from using mobile phones so detailed photos of the wedding are still scarce.
At 8:30 p.m., another ceremony called varmala is held where the couple exchange flower garlands. In accordance with Hindu tradition, they also pray and perform the “saath phere” ritual, in which the bride and groom walk around a fire seven times, symbolizing the seven vows.
After the wedding, a grand dinner party was held. People sang and danced until late into the night.
