Kim Sae-ron’s family holds press conference.
On March 27, the legal representative of the late actress Kim Sae-ron’s family, attorney Bu Ji-seok, held a press conference addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the actress’s passing.
Attorney Bu explained that he was speaking on behalf of the family, as they were suffering from severe anxiety and unable to appear publicly. “Kim Sae-ron’s private life is being indiscriminately exposed,” he said, “and criticism toward her bereaved family continues.”

“The purpose of today’s press conference,” he continued, “is to earnestly ask that the public stop attacking the family.”

During the briefing, Bu revealed contents obtained through forensic analysis of the late actress’s mobile phone, including alleged KakaoTalk messages exchanged with actor Kim Soo-hyun. According to Bu, the data is “evidence that Kim Soo-hyun had a romantic relationship with Kim Sae-ron when she was still a minor.” The released screenshots were described as shocking. One image clearly showed the date “2016,” when Kim Sae-ron was 17 years old (Korean age), while Kim Soo-hyun was 29. In the chat, Kim Soo-hyun allegedly wrote, “Give me a real kiss,” and “When can I fall asleep in your arms?”
Bu stated that there were multiple screenshots, not just one or two, and added, “I will release more,” repeating the phrase several times. He pleaded with the media and public to stop the blame and speculation directed at Kim Sae-ron and her family.
Previously, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency had acknowledged that the two actors had dated, but claimed the relationship had not occurred during Kim Sae-ron’s time as a minor. As of now, Kim Soo-hyun’s side has not issued a response to the latest press conference.
Attorney Bu also addressed the controversy surrounding a legal notice sent by Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, demanding a 700 million KRW (approx. $515,000 USD) repayment from Kim Sae-ron.
“The late Kim Sae-ron suffered immensely after receiving that document,” Bu said. “There is evidence of how much pain she was in.” He added, “Speculation that the family is revealing this for money is completely unfounded. Kim Sae-ron was so distressed by the demand that she even contacted a suicide prevention center. Her family was aware of how much she was struggling.”
He continued, “Even if Kim Soo-hyun or YouTuber Lee Jin-ho were not directly responsible for her death, what parent could stay silent knowing these things?”
Bu concluded by warning of potential legal action, saying that unless the false claims made by an alleged former boyfriend were clarified, strong legal steps would be taken.
