Coco Gauff hints at change she’s made with Matt Daly which she wants to keep as a secret

Matt Daly has wasted no time making changes to Coco Gauff’s game and the results speak for themselves.

The World number four decided it was time for a change after going five straight tournaments without making at least the quarter-finals.

But since Gauff replaced coach Brad Gilbert with Daly in September, she has yet to lose and is just two matches away from winning her second title in a row.

Gauff mentioned previously that Daly wants to improve her serve, but there are other aspects of her game that he is changing.

What is the change Matt Daly has made to Coco Gauff‘s game?

Coco Gauff seems to be enjoying life under coach Daly and she has gone on a nine-match win streak since failing to defend her US Open title.

She is looking more aggressive and consistent with the forehand and is increasing the amount of points she is winning behind her second serve.

But following Gauff’s fourth round victory over Marta Kostyuk at the Wuhan Open, she hinted at Daly changing her grip, which at times caused her difficulty, especially with her forehand.

“Yeah, I saw they found that,“ Gauff said about reaching the Wuhan Open quarter-finals. “He has a lot of expertise in that area.

“Honestly, not just that. He does really good at tactical stuff, mental side, too. But yeah, Matt is great. We’re changing stuff.

“I don’t want to give too much of what’s going on, but there are changes happening. I’ve been playing with them since Beijing.”

Coco Gauff storms into the Wuhan Open semi-finals

Gauff took her win percentage in China to 92.9% when she eased past Magda Linette on Friday morning.

The former US Open champion needed just one hour and 24 minutes to complete a 6-4, 6-0 win in which she did not get her serve broken.

“I’m really happy with how I played,” Gauff said. “Obviously a smooth first set. Had chances to maybe close it out in the 5-3 game in the second, but I was happy I was able to close it out on my serve.”

Gauff will face a tough test in the semi-final against top seed Aryna Sabalenka, in what will be their first contest since January’s Australian Open semi-final.
